FILM LAW IN LATIN AMERICA

Since the 1990s, cinema laws have been created in Latin America. These laws are in alignment with international legislation and international trade agreements affecting cultural production. A film producer should check the pros and cons of moving a production to a different country.

The following laws promote the production and international co-production of films and television programs that can be distributed domestically, regionally and globally.

ARGENTINA

  • Film Law (Law Nº 17.741, Act Nº 1248/01)

BOLIVIA

  • Audiovisual Law (Law N° 1302 of 1991)

BRAZIL

  • Audiovisual Law (Federal Law 8685 of 1993)

CHILE

  • Audiovisual Law (Law Nº 19.981)

COLOMBIA

  • Audiovisual Law (Law Nº 1556 of 2012)

Colombia grants a 40% rebate on production expenditures and a 20% rebate on accommodations, food and transportation costs for productions that spend at least $500,000 in the country

COSTA RICA

  • Law on the Creation of the Costa Rican Film Center

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

·Law No. 108-10 on the Promotion of the Film Industry

The Dominican government has approved a 25% tax credit on qualifying film productions in the country

ECUADOR

  • Audiovisual Law l (Act 2006-29)

MÉXICO

  • Audiovisual Federal Law

Mexico offers a cash rebate worth 7.5% of expenses plus reimbursement of value added tax that international producers have paid.

PANAMÁ

  • Film Law Nº 16 of April 27, 2012

Panama provides a 15% cash rebate on all local expenditures.

PERÚ

  • Peruvian Film Law (Law Nº 26370)

  • Amendments to Law 26370, (Law Nº 29919)

PUERTO RICO

  • Puerto Rico Film Industry Economic Incentives Act (Act Nº 27 of March 4, 2011)

  • Law of the Corporation for the Development of the Art, Sciences and Film Industry of Puerto Rico (Law Nº 121, 2001)

Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, offers a 40% tax credit on payments to local film crews

URUGUAY

  • Film and Audiovisual Law (Law Nº 18.284)

In conclusion, international film productions are becoming more attractive in Latin America through legislative and fiscal incentives.

en vísperas de los ciencuenta

Bienvenidos a mi blog.  Mi nombre es Argelis Vanessa Wesley.   Hoy, tomé la decisión de crear un blog para conmemorar una nueva década en mi vida.  Cumpliré 50 años el próximo año.  Hay una canciión -Señora de las Cuatro Décadas- compuesta por el compositor guatemalteco Rocardo Arjona.  Seré una señora de las cinco décadas.  Tengo la ilusión de iniciar ese período con bríos.  

A partir de hoy, compartiré mis experiencias en este experimento denominado En Visperas de mis Cincuenta.
